#24 Should I open the door when the Unknown knocks?

Open the door to the Unknown_Spiritual Awakening Way

The Unknown happens in the present. And the present is more than just a moment—it’s the dwelling place of the Divine. Where are you living?

When a Truth Integrates

On this path of self-discovery, you’ll begin to realize that the “truths” you encounter along the way become part of your very being—completely integrated and absorbed.

The beautiful part is that every time you find a new idea or concept that resonates with everything you are learning, it will become part of your belief system without creating conflict. In fact, it will do just the opposite; it will reinforce all the others with a new layer of understanding, that is, awareness. And your consciousness will grow.

A Phrase That Opens the Door

To say that your awareness will grow is nothing more than saying that you are now aware of something you weren’t aware of before. That’s why it “grows,” because it is now greater than before. Your consciousness is larger, and as a result, you’re aware of more.

I read a phrase in the book Courage by Osho: “When the unknown knocks at your door, open it.” That line sparked the reflection you’re about to read. Are you ready?

The Illusion of Past and Future

Around that phrase, a whole new idea began to form—something I’d like to share with you. For me, it meant a new leap in awareness that kept me in awe for a full week and, without a doubt, will help me embrace whatever new things come into my life.

You already know that the past doesn’t really exist, because we are always in the present. If you stayed awake all night tonight, you would reach “tomorrow” without ever having left the present, right? And this applies to your whole life. If you had never fallen asleep, you’d realize that the 8-year-old child you once were is still you…

Now let’s do the same with the future. The future doesn’t exist either. It’s just a projection of your mind trying to guess what’s coming, using memories of the past, slightly modified, to approximate a possible reality. The point is, we never reach that future, because we are always in the present. That “tomorrow” is, in truth, always today.

Once you understand that, let’s bring in another idea. Then we’ll connect all the dots to reach a larger conclusion.

Life: Here and Now

Knowing that there is no past or future, we can agree that the only real thing “happens” in the present. In other words, the only real thing is the present. Now we have to accept this idea fully, without resistance, and know that everything that is real in our lives will be found in the present, nowhere else. Do you understand?

God Lives in the Now

Let’s begin with the premise that you believe in the Universe, in Life, in a Cosmic Consciousness, in God—or whatever name you prefer. God is real, which means God exists in the present. How do you connect with God?

Well, you should know that God often comes looking for you, but you are not “at home,” in your dwelling place, where you should be.

God shows up, but doesn’t find you. Why? Because you’re always in the past or in the future. Your mind is always there, and you with it, thinking about memories and times past, or vice versa, planning what your future will be like and all the things you will do when you finally reach that future. Can you see it now?

The Cost of Living in Another Time

If you spend your life thinking about the past or the future, then God—who is real, who lives in the present, and who comes to find you—won’t find you. And if you’re asking the Universe for some kind of sign, you won’t receive it by living in the past or the future. Because you simply won’t be aware of it.

But this doesn’t end here. It gets better.

Your Bond with Existence

Let’s now look at a child’s relationship with their parents. As a child, you probably once believed you could be completely independent from your parents.

And I don’t mean financially. I’m talking about the general idea of your life. Surely, as an adult, you thought you were so independent that at times you had to foster or reinforce your bond with them so it wouldn’t weaken.

That may be what the child thinks. But your parents would say something else: the bond cannot be broken. And if you’re a parent yourself, you’ll understand this as soon as you think of your own children. The bond is unbreakable. Trying to “break” it carries a huge emotional cost and is ultimately futile, since you won’t succeed. You’re connected, and every time you see your parents, even if they say nothing, you’ll know it, you’ll feel it, and so will they —because that spiritual tie is indestructible.

Life Invites Us to Grow

Now let’s connect the dots.

Think about this: why do we want stability? We resist change because change makes us uncomfortable. It pushes us out of our comfort zone and forces us to face the unknown, what we believe to be insecure and with uncertain consequences.

We prefer the familiar (the past), where we feel like we’re in control, protected by a brain that can craft the perfect plan to keep everything just the way it is.

The Unexpected Is What’s Real

But remember: what’s real happens in the present. This means that all the new things in life, the unexpected changes, those variables you never control, the strokes of bad luck, the misfortunes, and, of course, the blessings, the strokes of good luck, the unexpected triumphs, and, in general, everything you don’t expect and that changes, is real. That’s Existence itself revealing itself before your eyes. This Existence that you can’t control or predict is the Universe, Life, or God, reaching out to you. Do you see?

All of this, the unpredictable, is the Mystery of life; it is God. And it is real, and it is in the present. Existence comes to your doorstep, but if you keep trying to change nothing, stuck in the past or in your plans for the future, it won’t find you. Because you won’t be home.

“When the unknown knocks at your door, open it.”

A Divine Opportunity

You’re going to have to embrace the unknown, not as a threat, but as a divine opportunity. Because it’s the Universe approaching you. Life wanting to live through you. You’re going to have to be attentive, that is, present, so as not to miss its visit.

And ignoring it won’t help. Just like with the parent-child bond, you may think you’re living in isolation and that it won’t come. But the bond is there, and Existence will find a way to reach you.

Embrace the Change and Open the Door

Ignoring its call will only generate a high emotional cost, a growing sense of disconnection that will intensify the more you ignore it. Change will show up again and again. No matter what you do. And each change will be an invitation from Life to join with it. To experience it fully. To stop controlling and start trusting. Do you see? God is an experience, a key part of your spiritual growth.

Embrace change. In the Unknown, you can feel safe and protected—because it is God knocking on your door. As simple and magical as that.
