Every event opens an array of possibilities, and in each of them Life awaits you. Your mind will choose the best, but your soul recognizes the Unity. Learn to embrace them all.
Accept All Possibilities
It’s been almost a year since my little daughters moved to another state. Visiting them often isn’t always possible, and I believe they’re still not fully aware of all the time we no longer share together. I don’t know what the future will bring, for them or for me. In recent weeks a phrase has been circling in my mind: “Accept all possibilities.”
“Accepting all possibilities” contains a beautiful truth for everyone who feels that something greater than ourselves is guiding the course of this vast and intricate reality.
God Is All Possibilities
Accepting all possibilities is accepting Life, the Universe, or God; and let me tell you why. Regardless of your religion, your God encompasses everything. God is everything. And therefore, He is “all possibilities.”
Now comes the beautiful part. If your God is all possibilities, accepting them all is accepting Him.
The Mind’s Trap
Notice something. We tend to go through life taking only what we like and ignoring the rest. And that’s logical, because that’s how we “build” our world, each of us, by focusing on what interests us, amplifying that area of interest and remaining unaware of the rest. But you can only do this with things in the present, with what you’re living and experiencing.
The Future and Its Outcomes
What can we do when we have to face the outcome of something that will happen in the “future”? That’s when you realize you can no longer do this, because you still don’t know what will happen.
Before I go on, let me tell you: don’t waste time tormenting yourself with something that doesn’t yet exist. Don’t feel fear or let something unresolved create unease. I once read a question I never forgot: “Is there anything more insane than believing in something that doesn’t exist?”
Wait Without Fear
It’s probably inevitable that at some point you’ll feel nervous about a result or outcome. And with practice, you’ll discover that you can deal with things to try to resolve them, but doing so without fear.
Ideally, you would do it from a state of total calm; but if there’s still some nervousness, maybe the following will help you as it helps me.
Your Range of Possibilities
When you’re waiting for a result or an outcome, an array of possibilities opens up. Today I finally accept this range of possibilities.
It’s not enough to just see it; you must accept it in its entirety. And among all the possibilities, yes, there will be an end of the range you don’t like so much. These will be all the possibilities that bring pain, risk, effort or discomfort. And faced with such an avalanche of “bad” options, your mind will happily conclude that it’s better not to think about those possibilities and just move on without considering them.
Don’t Blindfold Yourself
I agree that we shouldn’t give power to negative possibilities or outcomes. That’s not where you should focus your energy and attention. But you won’t truly accept reality if you ignore “bad” possibilities knowing they exist.
In other words, it’s not about turning a blind eye. If your consciousness has already reached those possibilities (because you’re aware they can happen), you can’t put on blinders.
Separating from God
What it’s about is accepting all possibilities: you’ve already seen them, they’re right in front of you, and God is in each one. If, for example, out of 5 possibilities there are 2 you don’t like, then you’re with God in 3 possibilities but not with God in the other 2. Do you see? You yourself have voluntarily chosen to separate from God in 2 of them.
What happens when we separate from God? It hurts. It doesn’t matter who your God is. When you separate from Life itself and from the divine creative energy, your Being feels it — and it hurts.
Unity Feels Good
Have you ever wondered why we like to take part in good deeds? Our brain releases substances that make us feel good when we engage in an altruistic act. Among them are dopamine and oxytocin — released not only by the person who performs the good deed, but also by the one who receives it. And it doesn’t stop there: even a witness releases them. This is the intrinsic nature of human beings.
Could it be that we’re part of a whole and it feels good to return to unity when we become aware we were away from it?
Forgiving Is Returning to Love
On an energetic level, our particles resonate with those that vibrate at the same frequency. If we choose to separate ourselves from love (that is, from God, who is absolute love), it will hurt. That’s why forgiving feels so good! Forgiveness is returning to love. It’s not fragmenting, but returning to that Unity. Do you see?
All this is not just wordplay. If you’ve come this far, you already know that your mind tirelessly generates reasonings, and that you need to shut down that inner laptop for a moment and focus on feeling.
Whenever your mind is overwhelmed by a whirlwind of reasoning and hasty conclusions in response to a reality that you’re trying to understand, look within yourself and feel: there you will find the truth, and everything else is just mental noise.
God in Every Possibility
When you realize that something connects you to love — that this love represents Unity, and that God is present in all possibilities — it becomes easier to look at that array of possibilities and see God in them.
When the time comes, there, in front of that range of possibilities, you must surrender and trust, anchored in your faith, that everything will work out for your greatest good, even if you cannot understand it now.
Only then can you begin to see that you are part of a divine plan and that you only have to witness how God will unfold it for you.
Trust in Life
Accepting all possibilities will not only bring you peace; it will also bring you trust in Life and faith that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
You Can Still Accept It All
There’s something that always helps me when I face a challenge: if, before the result or outcome came, you knew you were going to die, how much would those ‘bad’ possibilities really matter?
In fact, if that were to happen, your range of possibilities would no longer matter. Do you see? In that moment, for you, there would only be time to be grateful for your entire life and to trust that whatever happens will be the best that can happen without your participation.
The Mark You Leave
Your gratitude would focus on everything you have lived through. And your being, your actions, your love will remain present in the hearts of all those who remember you with love. Anyone who has crossed paths with you in life will remember you by the mark you have left on them.
Playing Until the End
If you do this exercise, you’ll realize you can face events by being grateful for your entire life up to the moment just before each outcome or result.
Every time you face a challenge, be aware that you could die before knowing the outcome. Be grateful and feel at peace knowing you’ve reached this present moment having done everything you could with the cards you were dealt.
Then look at the range of possibilities and accept continuing to ‘play’ this game called life.
God will be waiting for you wherever life takes you, and you’ll live it as long as you can keep playing. For what purpose? Because you still have more love to give to the game. You’re still here because you haven’t yet completed everything you came to contribute.
One Whole
Don’t think of the range of possibilities as separate options. They are all part of a whole, and ultimately it doesn’t matter which one is chosen. Of course, you’ll prefer the outcome most beneficial to you, but deep down you must detach from the result and accept them all. Only then can you feel that you prefer some options without truly separating from any.
I know it seems complex, and to some extent, it is: how contradictory to prefer some options over others and, at the same time, detach yourself from your favorites! But that’s exactly what it’s about. That’s the difference that changes everything.
Detachment Is the Key
Yes. You will need detachment to accept all possibilities. That’s the state of consciousness that brings you the peace you need — the peace that only comes when you experience trust in Life. It’s a peace that doesn’t come from the mind, because it isn’t of this physical world.
Look at the range of possibilities. Be grateful that you’re alive to contemplate them, and be grateful for your life up to this moment, knowing that among all the ‘negative’ options you see, there is always the possibility that you could die today.
The Blessing of Each Possibility
Once you integrate this new perspective, you’ll realize the blessing of living through any of the possibilities, because it means you’re still connected to Life and therefore to God.
I don’t want to end this entry without addressing something that may have crossed your mind right now: “Of course, how obvious! Everything could always be worse! I look at my range of possibilities and I’m content with all the options because everything could always be worse: I could be dead! So, logically, I prefer to live and face whatever comes, whatever the option and whatever the outcome.”
Now hold onto that small emerging emotion. Be aware of what has just opened up within you: that detachment is what I’m talking about.
